8. Beware Of Witnesses
The Yakuza are a highly organised crime syndicate. You dont gain the reputation they have by making mistakes. With Wolverine having an adventure in Japan, it was obvious that at some point, the Yakuza were going to get involved. The rest of the film had every Japanese cliché going, so why not add the Yakuza to the mix? The first big action scene occurs at the funeral for Yashida. Wolverine spots that one of the monks officiating the funeral happens to be supporting a lovely tattooed sleeve on one of his arms. His wolf senses tell him that something is wrong and he confronts the monk. He is proved right, because the monk attacks him and it is revealed that the Yakuza are launching an assault. But far from being the elite, organised team we would expect from the Yakuza, the mobsters at the funeral decide the best think to do is rip off their disguises and reveal their identity to all the witnesses who are standing around. Surely the number one rule of any hit is to be as invisible as possible? You dont want to make yourself obvious, do we? Thats what I learnt from playing the Hitman games, anyway.
