And finally, it's the film that critics have most frequently compared Wonder Woman to so far, the Captain America solo movie that proved the character would be so much more than merely a cynical exercise in flag-waving.

Much like Wonder Woman, the tone is mega-earnest, it hurls its titular hero into a period war setting, and arrives just ahead of a much-hyped team-up movie starring said hero.

The first Cap's tongue-in-cheek, old-fashioned stylings clearly skewed towards slightly older audiences than most MCU fare, yet Wonder Woman has carefully managed to nail a broader tone, appealing to young women as much as it will older fans of classic adventure films.
