Wonder Woman: 11 Awesome Superhero Movies It Destroyed Critically

2. Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Despite being strongly lauded by critics, Guillermo del Toro's superhero sequel came and went without much fanfare, and with the recent news of an impending Hellboy reboot, it seems like an attempt is being made to scrub those last remnant's of Ron Perlman's wise-cracking anti-hero from our brains.

Still, The Golden Army is everything a superhero sequel should be: bigger, funnier, more visually stunning and touting a more interesting villain. The production design in particular here is out of this world, yet it's a shame audiences didn't turn out to give it the box office glory it deserved.

It'll be interesting to see how the David Harbour-starring reboot turns out, though del Toro set an incredibly high bar with this immensely charming, stylistically intoxicating movie.
