Wonder Woman 1984: 5 Ways Steve Trevor Could Return
1. Chris Pine Is Playing A Relative Of Steve Trevor
While we know that Pine will be appearing in Wonder Woman 1984 as Steve Trevor, there is the possibility that he's not playing the Steve Trevor. Maybe this Steve is a relative of the American pilot we met in the first movie? Sure, it sounds a little like a soap opera storyline, but it wouldn't be the first time that something like this has happened.
The classic Wonder Woman series actually pulled this exact storyline off successfully. The first season of the show was set during the '40s to accurately reflect the comic books with Lynda Carter portraying the eponymous heroine and Lyle Waggoner playing pilot Steve Trevor. But the series was simply too expensive for ABC and, as a result, it was axed.
However, CBS agreed to save the show if the producers updated the setting to the '70s - so that they wouldn't have to fork out the extra cash for the '40s props and locations and thus, The New Adventures of Wonder Woman was born. But for continuity reasons, Waggoner couldn't continue to portray Steve Trevor (he would've aged significantly in the thirty years between the two seasons) so, from Season 2 onwards, he portrayed Steve's son.
Director Patty Jenkins is a big fan of the classic series, so perhaps she is paying homage to it by replicating the Steve Trevor storyline? If this is the case and Pine is playing a relative of the original Steve then let's hope that, like in the classic series, there is no romantic connection between Diana and Steve 2.0 because that would just be weird.
