2. What's Up, Tiger Lily? (1966)
Allen made his directorial debut in 1966 with 'What's Up, Tiger Lily?', along with co-writing the script. Getting hold of a Japanese spy film (International Secret Police: Key of Keys), he overdubbed the dialogue, reconstructed the original scenes and added new ones. Transforming a low budget foreign spy picture into a ridiculously funny and entertaining watch. This technique had been done on other movies and TV shows before, but it was fresh hunting ground for Allen, with his quick one liners and witty gags working perfectly set against the cheesy acting and amusing stunts of the original film. The plot was twisted and molded to produce a new main goal for the characters - to obtain the 'world's best egg salad recipe'. This movie is short, funny and probably one of the best of its kind.
