World of Warcraft: 10 Things The Movie Needs

3. A Big Budget

It goes without saying that a movie based on the epic, expansive World of Warcraft is going to need some serious money put behind it, and though details remain vague, the budget is reportedly set at "North of $100m", though hopefully a fair amount North of that figure, given that cheap fantasy fare generally looks horrible; remember Uwe Boll's Dungeon Siege movie? No? Ok, well, it looked awful, and it still managed to cost $60m despite its only stars being an up-and-coming Jason Statham, and two desperate has-beens, Ray Liotta and Burt Reynolds. Still, if there's anything Jones does well, it is economy. Moon is a visually stunning, superbly-acted sci-fi adventure, yet only cost around $5m to make (a staggering achievement given it starred Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey, and world-class composer Clint Mansell was hired to do the score), while Source Code, despite looking great and starring the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga, Michelle Monaghan and Jeffrey Wright, cost a mere $32m while looking like it cost a whole lot more (and making almost 5x its budget in revenue). Nevertheless, we hope that nobody skimps on the WoW movie's budget; it already has a colossal pre-built audience, so even if the film were to cost $200m, it would almost certainly make something of a profit.
