X-Men: 10 Massive Questions About Its Confusing Canon

6. Does €˜Other Deadpool€™ Still Exist?

The events that took place in the gap between 1973 Wolverine being saved from the riverbed and 2023 Wolverine waking up at X-Mansion remain a mystery for upcoming films to fill in. However, you€™d think that the pre-1973 events that were established in earlier movies would still count, given that nothing has erased any of this.

This would include the Vietnam War (which was waged from 1955 to 1975, in real life), which Wolverine fought in during X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He got sent to the firing squad during the conflict, and was subsequently recruited by William Stryker for Team X. He was then introduced to some new friends, including a certain wisecracking assassin called Wade Wilson.

So, when Ryan Reynolds turned up as a new version of this character in 2016€™s Deadpool, some viewers may have had questions. Wasn't there already a Wade Wilson in the X-Men universe, who must have been born in like the 1950s if he was old enough to know Wolverine the 1970s? Does the original movie Deadpool still exist within the canon?

The short answer to this one is a big fat no. The original Wade Wilson no longer counts. Lauren Shuler Donner said at the premiere of Days Of Future Past that fans should €œJust forget about X3 and the first Wolverine€™. In terms of whether anything from Origins still counts, then €“ probably not.
