X-Men: 7 Best & 7 Worst Casting Decisions In The Franchise So Far
4. Will.I.Am - (X-Men Origins: Wolverine)
There are lots of things The Black Eyed Peas' rapping front-man and producer extraordinaire can do: he can turn his chair around on "talent" shows, he can "invent" gadgets, he can sing and dance, and he can sculpt his hair into improbable geometric shapes. But one thing he plainly cannot do is act, and even in the quagmire of mostly awfulness that is Gavin Hood's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the man with plainly too much punctuation in his first name was the worst player. He might have looked the part of Kestrel, but that does not a good performance make, and he manages to turn a charismatic character into a dead-eyed dullard whose death at the hands of the far more appealing Victor Creed comes more as a welcome relief to remove him from Wolverine's inner circle than the tragedy it is supposed to be. In failing to give his character life, Will.I.Am treads the already well-travelled path of pop stars trying and failing to break into Hollywood, and it's hard not to wish he didn't leave the character in the far more capable hands of a more accomplished, more able actor, who might have made him an engaging sidekick.
