X-Men: Apocalypse - 10 Big Storylines That Should Come Next

4. Schism

Then again, if Fox wanted to either give some lead-in to Wolverine And The X-Men or else keep up the big bombastic blockbuster form the franchise has been in so far, they could do worse than going back to the Schism storyline. With the double bonus of finally making Cyclops an interesting character, something the old movies never even tried despite having the mega-talented James Marsden in the part. Scott Summers is often mis-characterised as being boring but, much like fellow €œBoy Scout€ Superman, that's usually symptomatic of bad writing. He's come into his own recently as his tunnel vision view of leadership and plans for mutantkind butted heads with Wolverine, leading to what was essentially X-Men: Civil War. Schism followed a mutant attack on the UN €“ whilst Cyclops was giving a speech €“ with his and Wolverine's differing takes on what to do about the situation, leading to a full-scale battle that has changed the comics landscape ever since. Cyclops is now on the run, a terrorist/freedom fighter agitating for mutantkind whilst Wolverine is the less complex €œhero€. It's an interesting take, and would be a cool one for the films to follow.
