5. Storm, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler And Angel Have All Been Recast
Though it was only four years ago that James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult arrived as the young go-getter versions of Xavier, Magneto, Mystique and Beast, by 1983 all four characters are going to be into their 40s and making way for the new talent. That's where Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Ben Hardy come in. They'll play Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Nightcrawler and Angel, respectively, with James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Halle Berry, Alan Cumming and Ben Foster apparently all out of those roles at this point. It appears to be a concerted effort to start afresh after Days Of Future Past altered things forever. And, in fairness to Singer and the Apocalypse execs, they haven't picked a bad roster of names here to replace the originals. Smit-McPhee and Turner have wowed before, the latter in Game Of Thrones and the former in the likes of The Road and Let Me In, but Tye Sheridan is the ace in the deck - on the evidence of Mud and Joe, he's the best teen performer to come along in years.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
