The X-flicks have had their share of spectacle, but for the most part the action has been focused on a handful of characters fighting in one place, with individual/personal stakes on the line. Now, we have the potential to see some serious global carnage that could rival Marvel's biggest blockbusters.

In a recent interview, screenwriter Simon Kinberg  promised something that fans have not witnessed in an X-Men movie before:

“The kind of scope and scale we’re talking about is like disaster movie, extinction-level event. Sort of Roland Emmerich-style moviemaking, which you’ve never seen in an X-Men movie, or any superhero movie, which I think is exciting.”

It certainly is. The Roland Emmerich comparison may not be to everyone's liking, but imagine that kind of spectacle with the attention to story and character we've seen from Singer in the past and we could be looking at something very special indeed.
