X-Men: Apocalypse - Fox In Trouble With Artist Over Dazzler Artwork

Studio in hot water for unauthorised usage...

You'd have to be pretty pissed off if you faced controversy and a pile of bad publicity for something you ended up scrapping in the first place. It's a bit like preparing for an acting role with an intense method only to see what you prepared for hadn't made it past the editor.

That might be how Fox are currently feeling, after X-Men artist Bill Sienkiewicz called them out on their unauthorised use of some of his artwork in X-Men: Apocalypse.

He was the artist behind the Dazzler - Sounds of Light and Fury cover art in 1983, which was teased as part of a deleted sequence in the film and then given away at Comic Con. Unfortunately, Sienkiewicz says he only became aware of the photo's existence when fans came up and asked him to sign it...

Clearly there was some sort of miscommunication between the two, since Sienkiewicz is due compensation for Fox's official use of the photo by Fox. He's not shy about accusing them of underhanded tactics either...

So, should Fox be sending a big old cheque over to Sienkiewicz immediately? Share your reactions below in the comments thread.
