X-Men: Dark Phoenix - 40 WTF Moments
16. Why Would Anyone Give Magneto Land?!
And the other major problem with Genosha is that Erik mentions that the land was given to him legally by the US government and he's free to live there unmolested by the army. That's the same US government that he tried to overthrow back in the 1970s after being bust out of his maximum secutiry black-site prison, then, is it? You know, before he went into hiding and then turned up again as one of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse's crew and tried to help him destroy the Earth.
Look, Xavier might believe Magneto isn't an entirely bad guy, but from the government's perspective, he's a fugitive, a dangerous criminal assassin and possibly the anti-Christ. Why would they EVER give him land to potentially build a mutant army?!
15. "When It Happens, I Can't Stop It... Until I Can"
Jean heads to see Magneto because she wants to know how to stop killing people, having killed a grand total of one people. At least her morality isn't broken.
She tells him that she cannot hope to stop when the Phoenix takes over her and wants advice from him on how to not let herself go to the darkness. His answer doesn't help and she just gets angry and then... stops. When the army turn up, she just turns off her Phoenix rage, which makes the whole idea that she's incapable of doing exactly that a little redundant.
