X-Men Dark Phoenix - 8 Things It Must Do

5. Have The Characters Adhere More To The Comics Than To The Original Films

In the original X-Men comics, Cyclops, while definitely adhering to a specific code of conduct, was the badass leader. Not only was he one of the most powerful X-Men ever, but he was also an expert strategist. Additionally, Storm was a force to be reckoned with, something that rightfully gave her the title of one of the most popular X-Men ever. X-Men: Dark Phoenix needs to start shifting towards that.

Cyclops especially absolutely cannot start to drift toward what he was like in the original trilogy. Because of the decision to make Wolverine into the main character, Cyclops was sidelined into a whiny wet blanket. Cyclops was essentially the Lori Grimes to Wolverine's Rick.

While Tye Sheridan's take on the character did make Cyclops infinitely more interesting, he can't be quite the rebel he was in Apocalypse. Because of the ridiculous timeline of the X-Men films, Cyclops should be in his 20s by the time Dark Phoenix takes place, meaning he has more than enough time to mature and start shifting into his comic counterpart. Ideally, the film would end with Scott Summers in place to take full leadership over the X-Men.

Similarly, while Alexandra Shipp's Storm was wildly superior to Halle Berry's, she needs more to do this time around. Someone that can control the weather should not be underpowered. There's no need to convince fans that she could be beaten by someone like Toad.
