While Singer's first two X-Men films were praised at the time of their release there's been quite a backlash against X2. Though it's usually considered the best X-Men film, there are many who still harbor hard feelings over Singer leaving the franchise for Superman Returns and leaving it in the hands of Brett Ratner. Regardless of what one thinks about Superman Returns or The Last Stand it's reassuring we're getting someone seasoned in this genre. Not only is Singer experienced, but he's the very man who got the franchise off the ground in the first place A generation grew up on his first two X-Men films so there's a little bit of a nostalgia factor involved with Singer's return. While fans don't like his fascination with black leather costumes for the X-Men it's important to remember that Days of Future Past is a darker X-Men film, and obviously, colourful costumes aren't really going to jell with the dystopian future scenes. And let's not forget the incredible opening of X2 where Nightcrawler is attacking the White House. If Days of Future Past tops X2 in terms of scale and action it'll be very exciting and likely mean that all will forgive Singer for his past transgressions.
