X-Men Movies: 15 Moments That Pissed Off Every Fan
9. That Atrocious Romance - The Wolverine
For all of the things The Wolverine gets right (namely being better than Origins: Wolverine in pretty much every way), the wildly forced romance between Logan and Mariko Yashida still stinks something fierce. There's just never a reason why the audience should accept that these two have anything emotional to their blatant booty call: they hook up without any telegraphing beyond the obvious, and even post-coitus, there's not much of a reason to care beyond "she's the hot lady who needs help". As such, when Logan and Mariko go their separate ways at the end of the movie as predictably as clockwork, the audience again doesn't care, because where's the evidence that these two had anything meaningful in the first place? Considering that Wolverine is kinda-sorta a samurai in this movie, to have him defending the woman's honour simply because she's a person in trouble rather than a potential lay would have been much more interesting. Instead, probably as pressured by Fox, they went the lamely predictable route.
