X-Men: Supernova - 10 Big Questions We Need Answering
3. When Will It Reach Cinemas?
The X-Men: Supernova release date has not yet been announced, and it might be quite a while before it is. But there could be clues to be found in the previous X-Men movie's production schedule. The first rumblings about Apocalypse began in October 2014, followed by a cast announcement in January 2015. Shooting began in April 2015, and the film eventually reached cinemas in May 2016.
Right now, Supernova seems to be at the earliest stages, with no proper announcement, confirmed cast or even a director. It will surely be pre-production (building sets and so forth) that starts in May 2017, with the shoot proper kicking off a few months later. If they can turn the film around in a year and a bit from that point, as they did with Apocalypse, Supernova could light up cinema screens in mid-to-late 2018.
But following the critical bashing and middling box office returns of X-Men: Apocalypse, Fox might want to be a bit more careful this time around, and spend longer honing the script, mastering the VFX and doing other quality control stuff. If they do take a cautious approach, Supernova might not arrive until 2019.
