X-Men: The New Mutants - 10 Big Reasons To Be Excited

2. A Proper Superhero Horror Film

Something we've seen a lot of is recent years is comic book films bleeding over into genres outside their typical action-adventure style. This is especially true with the X-Men series (which we'll discuss in greater detail in a bit), and it now seems that Fox feels confident in taking the X-Men series to the horror genre.

While The New Mutants may not be the first attempt at taking comic book films into the world of horror, it is the first with the potential to be genuinely scary. Josh Trank tried to use horror elements in his Fantastic Four reboot, but that attempt fell flat on its face. There's also Marvel and Lionsgate's 2005 Man-Thing movie, which was not only terrible but has also likely been forgotten by most at this point.

The New Mutants, on the other hand, could very well be the first critically, commercially, and creatively successful comic book horror movie. In turn, this film could change the game by proving that superheroes and horror are a viable combination on the big screen. And based on who they have on the project, that potential could easily be realized.
