X-Men: The New Mutants - 10 Big Reasons To Be Excited

3. The Mutants' Powers And Backstories

Not only were they casted well, but the characters in The New Mutants themselves are poised to be fairly interesting ones. Also, save for Sunspot (who made a minor appearance in Days of Future Past), none of them have appeared on film before.

In turn, we'll be getting a look at some mutant characteristics and abilities we have yet to see on a cinematic level, which will help the film feel fresh. There's Cannonball's thermo-chemical energy that allows him to propel through the air, Magik's teleportation and sorcery, Mirage's illusions, and Wolfsbane's lycanthropy.

Sure, some of these powers are similar to what we've seen before, but are still all their own. And in addition to the powers themselves, we'll see the characters' different ways of dealing with them and how they tie into their backstories.

For instance, there's Rahne's internal conflict in regards to how her werewolf abilities contrast against her religious upbringing. Plus, judging by the sling on Cannonball's arm or Sunspot apparently taking shelter in a dryer, there's a lot of potential character arcs here that tie into the characters' abilities and confusion.

From a coming-of-age standpoint, this could be one of the best X-Men films since First Class.
