X-Men's Gambit Spin-Off Movie: Everything You Need To Know

7. Rupert Wyatt Has Snagged Directorial Duties

British film-maker Rupert Wyatt has had quite a career. Ten years ago he was was directing daytime TV in Liverpool, and now he's got three features under his belt. Rise Of The Planet of the Apes kick-started the director's Hollywood career in 2011, and after a slight hiccup with last year's uneven The Gambler, he's been personally selected by Tatum to make a blockbusting comeback with Gambit. Discussing Wyatt's hiring in a Reddit AMA, Tatum had the following to say:
"We finally found someone that I really do believe wants to make Gambit, it will be the second standalone character. And i just really think because Gambit is not the most popular or the biggest hero, I think there's a really unique opportunity."
Sounds like Tatum and Wyatt already have solid creative synergy and want to take the project in the same direction. Wyatt has proven he can handle both intimacy and larger spectacle well, which bodes well for a film that needs to establish a character and also compete as a fully-fledged tent-pole.
