X-Men Apocalypse: 11 Best Moments
8. The Young Mutants Watch Return Of The Jedi
One of the strangest and arguably most unnecessary scenes in the entire movie also turns out to be one of the most entertaining.
The young X-Men trainees take some time out to go see Return of the Jedi, and we see them emerging from the cinema afterwards, where Jubilee insists that Empire is the best and most complex, while Cyclops reminds her that it wouldn't have been possible without the first.
Hilariously, Jean Grey then chimes in with, "Everyone knows the third one's always the worst", which at first seems like merely a pointed jab at Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand, but is more perversely entertaining than that shallow reading could ever imply.
The line is likely to become infamous among fans because Singer is also unintentionally riffing on his own film, Apocalypse being a substantial step down from First Class and Days of Future Past. Hell, perhaps Singer went full meta and knew exactly what he was implying?
Either way, it's a cheeky, fun affectation and one of the movie's few engagements with its time period that actually hits the mark.
