The opening sequence that sees the old Apocalypse carried into the pyramid by the Four Horsemen on his massive, ostentatious "king's chair" might feel particularly familiar to anyone with a fondness for 1950s historical epics.

Bryan Singer has confirmed that the sequence, which culminates in Apocalypse being trapped under the collapsed pyramid is a homage to 1955 movie Land of the Pharaohs. That film sees the same sort of procession, complete with adoring followers lining the procession, and sees a baddie (Joan Collins' duplicitous Nellifer) trapped in a tomb by a big stone.
