32. The Opening Credits Sequence

The time travelling thread continues with the excellent stylised opening sequence that sees a journey through time and "monuments" from the ages appearing as the camera travels through a tunnel of sorts.

In there is the Mona Lisa, the Flying Scotsman, the Nazi party and Soviet Russia among other major reference points.

Elsewhere, the film's timeline says that Apocalypse has been involved in major historical events throughout history: the foundation of the First Dynasty of Egypt, the fall of the Minoan civilization, the decline of Mycenaean Greece, the Plague of Athens, the Great Fire of Rome, and the Eruption of Mount Vesuvius. In some ways, the timeline that the opening credits navigates is essentially the alternate timeline that springs up because Apocalypse is betrayed.

In essence, all of the human achievements on show are the "systems" that Apocalypse has so much disdain for, and which wouldn't have existed had been around.
