10 3D Zelda Moments That Left You Speechless
3. Fi's Farewell (Skyward Sword)
While many fans are happy to argue whether Fi or Navi is the more annoying of Link’s companions, one thing that is harder to debate is the emotional impact of Fi’s departure at the end of Skyward Sword. Many could have done without Fi’s constant pointing out the obvious every two seconds, stopping the game dead in its tracks, but then Nintendo had to pull a fast one, and at the last minute make us sorely miss this spirit of The Master Sword.
Fi tells Link to draw the Master Sword into the pedestal so that she may “Enter a sleep without end.” He follows Fi’s instructions, and, before entering this sleep, tells Link that she greatly appreciated the time they’ve spent together, that she has learned happiness through their experiences, and that she hopes they meet again in another life.
All this happens while Fi’s dramatically slowed down theme plays, in gentle, fluttering piano notes that really make you feel the weight of the departure. After this, you can never look at the Master Sword the same way again.
