10 Amazing Video Games You Can Get For Under £5
6. Alan Wake
Alan Wake spent a lot of time in development hell which led to many believing that it would be a crushing disappointment when it finally landed. Thankfully, that didn’t turn out to be the case and Alan Wake proved to be one of the best games of the last generation.
Mixing elements of horror, thriller, and science fiction, Alan Wake tells the story of a writer who visits the small town of Bright Falls for a much needed break, only to have his wife disappear and the locals take a turn for the murderous once the clock strikes midnight. Cue an innovative combat system in which you must use light to weaken your enemies before finishing them off. It’s a unique combat style and one that adds a lot of tension to proceedings, especially when you are taking on a mob of nasties. Add to this a genuinely compelling mystery involving Alan’s unwritten book and you have a game that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout its 8-10 hour campaign.
It may not have the same replay value as some of the games on this list, but where it lacks in longevity, it more than makes up for in atmosphere, combat, and storytelling. It’s also very different to a lot of games available; something which is becoming more and more rare these days.
