10 Announced Video Games That Mysteriously Disappeared
4. System Shock 3
There’s no denying the influence of the System Shock titles. The innovative original laid the futuristic, cyberpunk foundations that the likes of the beloved BioShock series would follow later.
The 1994 original was set in the year 2072, and saw the anonymous protagonist battling against SHODAN, a SkyNet-like system that has less-then-friendly intentions for mankind.
A ground-breaking concept and unique mechanics (such as the dermal patches that both augment and hinder the player) made this one a hit, and System Shock 2 launched in 1999, underperforming commercially but garnering a lot of praise from critics.
Finally, in 2015, System Shock 3 was announced. Five years later, financial snafus between developer OtherSide Entertainment and Starbreeze Studios, as well as rights issues and the ongoing pandemic, have muddied the waters significantly.
The game is supposedly coming to fruition, albeit gradually, though there are many sad tales that some developers are no longer employed on the project.
