10 Annoying Video Game Trends That Must Die In 2017
3. Exclusive Pre-Order Content
Ah, the bane of the gaming industry. The problem everyone seems to have with games, making everyone step onto their podiums and condemn the idea, only for it to continue. It’s partly our fault, but even more so the game developers.
Not only are they asking you to pay for a game with no guarantee of its quality, they gate specific pieces of content away from the player, requiring them to fork over money before the game is even reviewed. By peddling the game in this way, the developers don’t even have to worry about the game doing well as they have already secured a sizeable amount of money through pre-orders.
Locking away content to people who aren’t willing to pay in advance is distrustful at best, and frankly, we're all at fault for falling for it. By buying games before they even have proof of quality only pushes game developers to not care about the product, knowing that they still get the money regardless.
Stand against pre-orders and just wait for your new favourite game to be released, and the reviews to appear. The game will still exist a few days after launch, and for the same price.
