7. Dual Protagonists - Like A Dragon 8

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is currently hard at work on Like a Dragon 8, the sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which will once again allow players to control dual protagonists throughout its cinematic campaign.

Like a Dragon 8 will both reunite players with the prior game's protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga, and regularly switch perspectives to prior franchise hero Kazuma Kiryu.

This of course isn't the first time that the Like a Dragon series - recently rebranded from its original Yakuza moniker - has featured two protagonists, what with Yakuza 0 switching between Kiryu and fan favourite maniac Goro Majima.

It was a supremely popular decision in that game to frame the story around two great characters, but by the time Like a Dragon 8 releases next year, it'll have been almost an entire decade since we last got two playable characters in one of the series' mainline games.

Considering how successfully Like a Dragon endeared players to Ichiban, getting to play as both him and Kiryu for substantial portions of the story - rather than Kiryu's mere cameo appearance in Like a Dragon - could make this the most epic and entertaining title in the franchise yet.

While some fans understandably feel that Kiryu should've stayed retired following Yakuza 6, the prospect of playing as both him and Ichiban in the same game is just too damn delicious to turn down. Can't wait.
