Capcom's much-anticipated, long-expected remake of Resident Evil 4 is finally almost here, and everything we've seen so far suggests it's going to be a conscientious retooling of by far the series' most acclaimed entry.

Beyond honing the gameplay to fall in line with the recent remakes of the second and third games and cleaning up some of the original version's more problematic elements, the new Resident Evil 4 will also expand its scope with the addition of side quests.

Beyond letting the player buy and upgrade items, the iconic Merchant will now dispense optional side quests, such as solving puzzles and tracking down specific enemies in exchange for rewards.

While side quests can most certainly feel like lazy, soulless padding in a lot of AAA games, here's hoping that Capcom follows in the footsteps of the recent Dead Space remake - a game that, ironically, was originally influenced by Resident Evil 4 - and makes them feel both meaningful and truly worthwhile.

But considering how mechanically delicious the game looks, many fans will simply relish having another reason to keep playing.
