10 Awesome Horror Games Set In One Location

5. Beira D - Still Wakes The Deep (2024)

Whether it’s a cabin in the middle of the woods or a spaceship adrift in another galaxy, isolation is what makes a lot of horror locations scary. With nobody around for miles, the characters are forced to deal with whatever terror faces them on their own.

Completely cut-off from civilisation and surrounded by the freezing North Sea, the Beira D oil rig from Still Wakes The Deep therefore makes for an ideal horror setting.

While the industrial walkways and aggressive boss already make this rig an oppressive place to be, things get exponentially worse when the crew drill into an otherworldly substance in the sea’s depths. An unknowable cosmic terror is unleashed that begins to take over the vessel, turning the crew into grotesque monstrosities.

Playing as rig worker Caz McLeary, players must make their way through the gradually sinking rig to find a way to escape this comic horror nightmare.

Although players will spend a lot of time traversing through the same areas, it's the phenomenal sense of place developers The Chinese Room created that makes the Beira D such a compelling location.

From the worsening storm outside, the detailed environments, and the fantastically Scottish dialogue, it’s all-too easy to become swept up in this character-driven horror.
