10 Awesome Minigames In Video Game Credits
2. Super Monkey Ball (2001)
During the nineties, Sonic the Hedgehog creators Sega stood as one of gaming's most successful and well-known companies. And although their fame may have started to dwindle come the turn of the millennium, 2001's Super Monkey Ball is proof that the developers' creative juices had certainly not run dry.
Released on the GameCube after a brief stint in arcades, Super Monkey Ball features precarious and increasingly odd-shaped aerial platforms, which the player can tilt in any direction to move the monkey around in their glass ball.
The object is to get to the finish line in the time limit, collecting as many bananas as they can along the way.
When the credits come around, it's a very pleasant surprise to see the core gameplay adapted into a purpose-built level where the obstacles are the actual names of the developers.
Hovering for a few seconds in mid-air, the letters will then drop down randomly on the course, creating a minefield of clutter for the poor monkey to navigate through. For an endgame extra, this is actually really hard!
It's certainly an innovative take on the standard credits reel, though, and it really makes you wish more games would take a leaf out of Super Monkey Ball's book.
