While not visually spectacular, this moment had to make top of the list of awesome moments because it is where the truth about Ethan is finally revealed.

Having just had his heart ripped out by Miranda, you’d expect him to be well and truly dead, but instead he finds himself in an icy wilderness being taunted by Eveline, the dead villain of RE7. Her return is enough to make this an awesome moment, but what she reveals gives it the top spot on the list.

Ethan has been dead the whole time – since as far back as RE7, when he was first captured by mutated father, Jack Baker. He was infected with the mold and became his own kind of mutated creature, seemingly human, but capable of surviving what most could not.

It finally explained why Ethan took so much abuse throughout the game (like getting stabbed, well, everywhere) and how he miraculously glued his hand back on after Lady D sliced it off.

This is something that happened as far back as RE7 as well, where he had his hand stapled back on. The implication of learning this is massive on the new RE franchise and immediately prompted a replay of RE7 with this new perspective.

It became the perfect ending for this character, making his sacrifice at the end both devastating and seemingly inevitable. It also brings into question exactly what Rose is. Hopefully, answers will be given in RE9. Just a couple more years to wait…
