Unlike a lot of the other gaming franchises featured on this list, the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro series have actually crossed-over on multiple occasions. Although unfortunately the results of said collaborations are mixed at best.

So you can imagine the ire from fans upon learning that the now-cancelled Crash Bandicoot 5 was supposed to bring everyone's favourite purple dragon to modern systems. Not only was this exciting from a pure nostalgia point of view, but given how developer Toys For Bob took the established Crash formula and expanded upon it in several bold and fresh ways with Crash Bandicoot 4, fans were hoping to see the same thing happen with Spyro. There were also murmurs of there being several levels in which players would get the chance to play through the origins of various Crash villains, further opening up the scope for new and innovative gameplay opportunities.

Unfortunately the commercial failure of Crash Team Rumble - which funnily enough did see Spyro make an appearance as a DLC character - meant that Activision cancelled any plans for Crash Bandicoot 5. Toys For Bob have since severed ties with Activision, meaning that the chances of this project being ressurrected are slim-to-none.
