10 Awesome Video Game Crossovers We Were ROBBED Of
5. Street Fighter X Mortal Kombat
You may be surprised to find out that one of the most requested cross-overs in video game history was on the table at one point.
Although we're sad to say that a full Mortal Kombat VS Street Fighter game wasn't proposed, instead the intended collaboration would see Street Fighter's poster-boy Ryu stepping into the arena with the likes of Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Kitana.
This proposal came from Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, who had stated several times that having Ryu as a guest character in Mortal Kombat had been a dream of his. Former Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono did confirm that Ed Boon approached Capcom with this suggestion but it was ultimately rejected.
Understandably, the folks at Capcom didn't seem to keen to have Ryu - protagonist of the far brighter and more child-friendly series - in a situation wherein he could be mutlitated in all manner of graphic ways, fearing that it would be a tonal clash that'd be off-putting for players.
Whilst we can always ruminate on what could have been to see Ryu face-off against Mortal Kombat characters, it does make you wonder if this initial rejection is what has lead to Mortal Kombat going so hard on guest fighters in recent years.
