10 Badass Gaming Heroines That Could Have The Men For Breakfast

4. Elizabeth

Imprisoned for her entire life, it seems that Elizabeth is in the game to be a contemporary version of Princess Peach €“ missing and requiring rescue and protection. She may spend much of the game following Booker DeWitt around but very soon it becomes clear she is so much more than an ammo caddy. The deeper into the story we go, the more vital her abilities become to the point that something rare happens; the story begins to revolve around her rather than the player's controlled character. She is very smart from her years of study in the library, knows her way around a lock pick and has a number of vital hidden talents. The final moments of the game bring a remarkable twist which I won't reveal here but it firmly anchors Elizabeth as a centre point of the story rather than just a damsel in distress. What sets her apart and makes her feature so high on this list is how everything about her that is successful has nothing to do with how she looks. She is charming, clever, sweet and incredibly well rounded as a character. As video games have evolved over the last three decades, it is not uncommon for certain characters to capture the imagination the same way as they would if it were a film. In Infinite Elizabeth inhabits the role of the damsel requiring rescue but does it in a modern way where, most of the time she isn't the one who really needs saving.

I have one golden rule: There is no such thing as a guilty pleasure. Any song or film that makes you feel good doesn't need justifying.
