In the last couple of years, Grand Theft Auto has been in a bad place. In 2021 we had the absolute disaster that was The Trilogy: Definitive Edition release, tainting what should've been a great collection of ports as well as Rockstar's otherwise pretty impenetrable seal of quality. In 2022, there was a huge internal leak of footage of the upcoming GTA 6 which must've made working at the company hell at the time.

GTA6 was always coming, but seeing alpha footage sent fans into two completely different places. There were some who got lost in a frenzy of searching for release date hints anywhere they could. Alternatively, there were those who - just knowing for sure that it was in active development - felt satiated enough to wait. After all, it's been ten years since GTAV at this point, so what's a little more?

However, out of absolutely nowhere on November 8th, Rockstar announced via X their intention to reveal the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto in early December. A full decade of anticipation was always coming to a stop eventually but, considering the amount of time fans had waited, this was always going to be a massive moment.

This broke website records as the most viewed and liked gaming-centric post on the platform, showing people were more than ready for the next instalment.
