8. Amnesia: Rebirth
Coming an entire decade after the much-loved Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Amnesia: Rebirth isn’t a direct sequel to the original, but still has some fun little nods and cool moments that fans of the original will enjoy. This year’s offering follows in the footsteps of that original, utilizing a first person perspective with the ability to peer through open doors and slowly peek around corners. Skills that must be perfected quickly as the fear builds and builds in not just the main character, Tasi Trianon, but in you the player too!
Starting with a plane crash, always a sure-fire way to begin a mysterious adventure, Tasi’s search for her missing husband takes her into a nearby cave. This is a wee bit of a problem for Tasi, as when she’s in the dark she starts to hallucinate and hear voices. This is where Rebirth really shines, the dark (in more ways than one) visuals and the creepy sound design really get under the player’s skin and you’ll want to find a light source quickly before, well, you’ll just have to play it and see! Headphones are highly recommended for this one.
Throw in some fun puzzles and Amnesia: Rebirth offers a fantastic little horror experience that proves you don’t need a big budget to create big scares.
