10 Best Levels In The Spyro Reignited Trilogy
3. High Caves
High Caves was the first Spyro level to unleash the power of the supercharged jump and makes wonderful creatively use of it. Because of that, High Caves nicks the spot Tree Tops might have taken, as both levels are similarly dependent on these jumps.
High Caves steals its rival’s place for a few reasons. For one, it’s far more forgiving as you learn the ropes of the first powerup the game lets you loose with. Missing a jump will see a trio of kindly fairies pluck you up as you plummet, while Tree Tops just lets you fall to your death.
The metal spiders are such a cool enemy too, adding a nice sense of creepiness inside the more fanciful and lush caves. It’s another level that did so much with the old PlayStation’s capabilities, and it’s nice to see it off the leash here. With the power of this generation’s consoles, the beautiful landscapes can be enjoyed to their full potential.
It took until the second game for the power ups to really be perfected, but the High Caves whet players’ appetites for what was to come.
