Whether it's Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Batman, the LEGO games consistently bring tonnes of delightful charm to whichever franchise they adapt. The same was true with The Lord Of The Rings. While developers TT Games' LEGO-fied version of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit is a solid game in its own right, it's LEGO The Lord Of The Rings that stands out as the better entry.

Released in 2012, this title packaged Jackson's Oscar-winning trilogy into a colourful, family-friendly outing. Like other LEGO games, this is a puzzle-platformer that recreates iconic moments from the films. From battling Ringwraiths at Weathertop to defending Helm's Deep from hordes of orcs, each level lovingly brings Tolkien's world into the LEGO universe.

While the comedic spin on The Fellowship's quest is more suitable for a younger audience, the incorporation of Howard Shore's phenomenal score alongside original dialogue from the movies ensures the grandness of the setting and story is retained.

Complete with a massive roster of 80 playable characters (including Tom Bombadil) and hundreds of collectibles to find throughout each level, there are dozens of hours of lighthearted fun to be had in this game for Tolkien fans of all ages.
