10 Best Modern Video Game Soundtracks

8. Gravity Rush 2 (Kohei Tanaka)

What if Bioshock Infinite's flying world wasn't be populated by multidimensional racists, but by flying girls with gravity defying pets? You'd probably get something like Gravity Rush 2. Japan Studio's PS4 exclusive might not have sold in the numbers that other recent Sony exclusives have, but it still gathered a sizeable cult following. A following that was most likely as entranced as I was by the unique jazzy soundtrack the game provides.

The music in Gravity Rush is like a mixture of French, Japanese and the words a toddler makes when playing peek-a-boo. It's the most adorable gibberish you will ever hear. Characters speak in this unrecognizable babble of a language that gives the game its unique flavor and adds a cuteness factor equivalent to about 6 PPH (puppies per hour).

The joyful music makes you feel like you just entered a village carnival or a neighborhood party where a live band is entertaining all guests. The warm sounds of flutes, trumpets and clarinets welcome you to the world, while the violins are reserved for the more tense moments of story. Combine this with calm melodic piano pieces and uplifting jazz while you serenely glide through the air for a game you can just leave running all day as background music (electricity bill be damned). Just falling through the air gives the game an incredibly relaxed feeling.
