1. Minecraft
It would be difficult to argue that any other survival game would deserve the top spot than the game that became a cultural phenomenon.
It’s a testament that the game is still incredibly relevant today over 11 years after its initial release and still pulls an average of viewers on Twitch in the tens of thousands each month.
By now most people even vaguely familiar with video games are aware of how Minecraft works and it’s a game that only gets better with friends. Despite its simplistic art style (unless you are playing with one of the ray tracing texture packs enabled) the game is incredibly deep and there is much more to do here than simply survive and build amazing structures.
Working with friends to build a fully functioning fortress or village while crafting better gear and tunneling below ground is an incredibly fun experience and is something unique despite there being a slew of other survival games out there.
Simply put, there is nothing that truly comes as close to Mojang’s survival-come-builder masterpiece.
