While survival games are unforgiving by their very nature, Rust takes this concept to a whole other level as it looks to beat players into submission in their quest to survive. However, once you manage to get your hands on some resources and craft some basic gear the game is immensely rewarding.

Rust pits players against each other, as they are dropped into a procedurally generated map armed with nothing more than a rock and a torch. Facepunch studios’ survival game takes more of a sandbox approach than other survival titles as it sees players gather resources to improve their gear and build a base. The kicker here though is that other players are likely to raid your base for your resources and equipment in order to facilitate their own expansion.

Rust emerged in 2018 following five years in early access, even going on to receive a console release helping to drive a resurgence in recent years as the game grows in popularity. Mission-giving NPCs were added in an update last year that helps give players objectives other than to survive, perhaps improving the longevity of the unforgiving survival title.
