10 Best Nintendo Switch Games (So Far)

9. I Am Setsuna

I Am Setsuna
Square Enix

Want an old school JRPG? Good, because I Am Setsuna was created by an offshoot wing of Square Enix called 'Tokyo RPG Factory' (yes, really), to literally just focus on making turn-based role-playing games like those we all played across the late 90s and early 2000s.

That means whimsical, 'the chosen one/group will save us all' narratives, random battles, character stat-grinding, status ailments, potion-chugging and all that good stuff - elements that franchises like Final Fantasy have all but discarded (save for the fantastic World of Final Fantasy, anyway).

In a tonal switch from the high-falutin' adventures of 90s JRPGS, I Am Setsuna's narrative has a far more mellow and calm tone, slowly telling the tale of Setsuna herself, who must enlist the help of a variety of characters to fulfil an eventual sacrifice. Thanks to an expertly-written script - in Eastern RPG fashion, anyway - Setsuna herself doesn't stray into being melodramatic, allowing you to slowly explore the world, knowing there's a finality to your actions that only builds in weight with each step.
