10 Best Post-Apocalyptic Games To Play Until Fallout 4 Arrives

5. Rage

Another overlooked game emphasising action over survival in a post-apocalyptic setting is id Software's Rage - published by none other than Fallout 4's Bethesda Softworks. Rage takes place after an asteroid collides with earth, turning the world into a scorched wasteland not too dissimilar to Mad Max. The protagonist is an 'Ark Survivor', who comes out of a deep freeze and heads out to a surface filled with mutants, bandits, and small outcrops of human civilisation. As you'd expect from the developers of Doom, Rage is a fast-paced brutal shooter. Even a few years on from its release, the game looks absolutely incredible, with menacing monsters, gritty environments, and spectacular action set-pieces. It's a little light on story, but who needs that when you have weapons like mind-control bolts, bladed boomerangs, and grenade-launching shotguns? Similarity to Fallout 4: More than you might think, as there are quite a few connections between these two games. They share the same publisher, so inevitably there'll be a few elements cross over from Rage to Fallout 4. Bethesda has already said that they've been consulting id Software on the gunplay in Fallout 4, which suggests that it may have hints of the action-packed shootouts and AI that made Rage such a blast to play.
