10 Best PS2 Games Of All Time
4. Tony Hawk's Underground
There was a glorious period in the late 90s and early 2000s in which the Tony Hawk games were on top of the world. Skateboards, ska-punk and disrespecting authority were at the height of fashion. This all culminated in 2003 with the masterpiece that was Tony Hawk’s Underground.
Underground was the first time that the franchise stepped away from the arcade-style and high-score influenced Pro Skater series and instead went for a story-based title.
Here we stepped into the shoes of a player-created, young, aspiring skateboarder as they searched for their first sponsor, became an amateur, joined a recognised skateboarding team, worked their way up to the pros and ultimately set up their own skate team.
Future games would follow suit with the story-based design, but none would ever live up to the level of acclaim that Underground received. Even to this day, it’s still recognised as one of the greatest skateboarding games of all time.
The journey we went on, the various locations we visited, the tricks we did and the pros we met along the way were all truly unforgettable. The game had limitless replayability too, seeing as a second play-through allowed us the opportunity to punch that prick Eric Sparrow in his smug face.
