10 Best Resident Evil Games You Didn't Play
3. Resident Evil 4 (Wii & Oculus VR)
When it was released on GameCube, Resident Evil 4 was so critically lauded that it seemed a shame that it was trapped on a console with a relatively low install base.
Series creator Shinji Mikami had to go back on his previous exclusivity promise to Nintendo and bring it to the PlayStation 2 so it could become the worldwide phenomenon that it was destined to be.
With a brand new remake on the way and an Oculus Rift version that released last year, it’s the game that keeps on giving and you’d be hard pressed to find a system that RE4 isn’t available on. In terms of all of its ports however, it’s the Nintendo Wii version that deserves to have its praises sung.
Whilst it retains the tank controls of the PS2 release, the Wii version swaps out the game’s restrictive aiming system with what the console did best. Being able to use motion controls to point and fire Leon’s vast arsenal is excellent fun, adding a fresh feeling to this classic title no matter how many times you’ve previously played it.
The Wii version also included all of the PS2 extra modes missing from the Gamecube original, playable for the first time on Nintendo hardware.
It was a no-brainer that the Oculus Rift VR version would be a good fit to those of us who played through Resident Evil 4 on the Wii.
