10 Best Reverse-Horror Video Games You've Probably Never Heard Of
8. The Mysteries Of Baroque
This game is non-conventional in almost every sense of the word, as not only are you given the reverse horror opportunity to carve out a villainous path for yourself, but you are presented with an entirely different gameplay experience.
Calling it gameplay might even be a stretch, as The Mysteries of Baroque is a choice driven text-based title written by William Brown.
The narrative follows the events after your character is risen from the dead by a mad scientist named Dr Holofernes. Afterwards, you are given plenty of paths to stroll down, some relating to your love life and a quest for redemption, but other - more enticing - options include revenge, villainy and Eldritch powers being used to destroy the world.
It uses the best graphics possible, i.e. the human imagination. Despite the lack of visuals or audio, you will quickly become engrossed in this gothic tale thanks to the rich language and well-crafted narrative. The use of text makes the game a blank slate, giving you the power to picture the gothic scenario in whatever way you choose.
While it might seem a little inaccessible, it's a truly worthwhile experience and lets you enact some cathartic revenge upon the world.
