10 Best Reverse-Horror Video Games You've Probably Never Heard Of
7. Last Year: The Nightmare
Everyone loves a good asymmetrical horror game, as can be easily proved by the popularity of Dead by Daylight, Evolve, and other such titles. Still, they are just the tip of the iceberg, as there are loads of similar properties that approach their gameplay in the same way, and one very interesting variation of the structure is this game.
Last Year: The Nightmare - which followed up the original Last Year - lets you switch between the shoes of a group of teens and a vicious serial killer. You and your friends play as one of you attempts to murder the rest from a set of four killer classes, Giant, Strangler, Slasher and Spider.
One great thing that this title brings to the table is a focus on stereotypical high-school horror tropes. It fully indulges in the character archetypes that permeate this sub-genre, such as the cocky yet brave jock, the nerdy but resourceful loser, the smart but rude prom queen and more.
While this doesn't save the game from feeling like a bog-standard asymmetrical horror, it does give it this nostalgic slasher movie vibe.
Of course, this makes playing as the killer all the more entertaining, as you can feel like a true descendent from the likes of Jason or Michael Myers as you mow down these stereotypes and indulge in your killer instincts.
