Halo: Reach is often regarded as the best Halo title ever made, the sale figures certainly reflect this with a huge 9.60 million units - an undeniable success among fans and critics alike. As good as the game was, Microsoft deserve some serious praise for the advertising campaign behind Halo: Reach, for which its marketing department won several industry awards. Particularly praised was the live-action short 'Birth of a Spartan' which aired in early 2010. With advertising and marketing of such a high quality, it's impossible to think Halo: Reach was ever going to fail financially. Reach made $200 million on release, which at a time was a record for the series. Also, the game's success caused many to rethink the gaming calendar, with companies seeing Halo: Reach's strong sales as a sign that major titles can really sell in the usually sluggish holiday season. It sold three million units in the first month of release, and jumped to the top of charts in almost every territory. Halo: Reach is one of the best games to grace the Xbox 360, but eight games still outsold it. Then again, quality doesn't necessarily make sales.
