10 Best Spider-Man Video Games
4. Spider-Man 2
The former crown jewel in the web-headed crown, this was one game that benefited most from GTA III's runaway open-world influence.
Where the first movie game had a handful of levels that let you feel the immense potential in exploring New York, Spider-Man 2 was 'Spidey GTA', giving you a full day/night cycle, side missions, the ability to descend down to street level, random crimes to stop and TONS of collectibles to seek out.
You could even - through careful swinging on overlapping helicopter routes - make it to Staten Island and the Statue of Liberty itself. Needless to say I'll remember realising I could climb on Lady Liberty's face 'til the day I die.
The only thing that lets Spider-Man 2 down now is the story cutscenes and occasionally messy combat encounters. I'll not dwell on them as the positives drastically outweigh the negatives, but the voice acting is laughably unrehearsed, and combat can devolve into a scattershot mess of bodies and visual effects way too easily.
Still, the moment you first climbed up the Empire State Building, took in the view and leapt off?
That was Spider-gaming bliss.
